Prudential Bank Appoints Mr. Bernard Appiah Gyebi As New Managing Director

The Board of Directors of Prudential Bank has appointed Mr. Bernard Appiah Gyebi as the new Managing Director of the Bank, effective 28th February, 2023. Mr. Gyebi takes over from Mr. John Kpakpo Addo, whose tenure as Managing Director ended on 31st December 2022.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Gyebi said, “I am honoured to lead the team at Prudential Bank and grateful to the Board for the confidence reposed in me.”

Mr. Gyebi continued, “This is a daunting task by all standards, considering the times in which we find ourselves as a country in this turbulent global economic environment.  That notwithstanding, I promise to bring my wealth of knowledge and expertise to the fore in leading this great Bank to the pinnacle of success in the coming years.”

“Let us all come together to offer the needed support as we continue to build a stronger and more resilient PBL”, he urged all stakeholders.

Mr. Gyebi is an experienced banker with a deep understanding of the banking industry, having worked extensively in the sector for the past 23 years. He started his banking career in 1998 at Barclays Bank (now Absa), rose to the level of Head of Corporate Credit and acted as Country Credit Director, before joining Stanbic Bank as Head of Credit Risk. He then joined the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) as its Executive Head, Credit Risk, and later assumed the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer role.

He was until recently the General Manager, Risk Management, at Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC. During his career at most of the above-mentioned banking institutions, he had working experiences in their offices in South Africa, Swaziland, the United Kingdom, and Trinidad & Tobago, exposing him to best practices from diverse financial market environments.

His banking career has also exposed him to work in core areas of banking, including banking operations, customer relationship management, treasury management, credit risk, operational risk, enterprise risk and regulatory compliance, equipping him with a comprehensive understanding of banking. The combination of his experience and drive makes him an ideal fit for Prudential Bank in spearheading the next stages of growth.

Mr. Gyebi holds a post-graduate degree in Corporate Management & Finance from the Universite Paris Pantheon- Sorbonne and an MBA from Imperial College London. He is a product of Accra Academy and graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 1996 with a BSc. degree in Planning. He is also a trainer in financial services programs and served as a leadership coach in some of the institutions he has worked in. He had also previously served as a lecturer at the National Banking College.

The Board Chairperson, Mrs. Muriel Susan Edusei, in her welcome remarks said, “Mr. Gyebi’s in-depth knowledge and experience will be invaluable as we continue with our ambitious transformation agenda in this challenging economic environment.”

Mrs. Edusei took the opportunity to extend the Board’s thanks to the former Managing Director, Mr. John Addo for his role in the growth of the Bank to date.

She urged the staff of the Bank to wholeheartedly support the new Managing Director through the next phase of the Bank’s growth into a world-class indigenous Bank.
